Overview


Participants will embark on a transformative journey, gaining profound knowledge and advanced skills in supporting sustainable long-term recovery for individuals and their families. 

After completing this training, attendees will emerge with a new level of confidence and capability, ready to:

  • Understand the role of a Recovery Specialist, including required skills and tools
  • Understand ethics, boundaries, and confidentiality in peer recovery
  • Implement recovery planning: building recovery capital, developing daily recovery plans, and providing strengths-based support
  • Extend the role of family in the healing process
  • Collaborate with community-based professionals and case managers
  • Identify and address client patterns of trauma and grief
  • Identify return to use and implement prevention tools
  • Apply techniques related to emotional dysregulation and crisis de-escalation
  • Understand the history of substance use, mental health, and co-occurring disorders
  • Gain familiarity with the evidence-based practice of Safe Passage
  • Build resiliency tools as a Recovery Specialist

TRAINING BREAKDOWN:

PRE-REQUISITIES: $299 (bundle) – 6 hours; 1 day — virtual, self-paced course – 6 CEU hours

Introduction to the Recovery Specialist Role: Skills, Tools, Ethics and Standards
– Module 1: Introduction to the Recovery Specialist Role, Skills and Tools – 1.5 hours
– Module 2: Ethical Standards for CRS – 3 hours
– Module 3: Professional Standards for CRS – 1.5 hours 

LEVEL ONE: $850 (21 class hours (3 days virtual or in-person) + 3 hours homework + 4 hours consultation) – 28 CEU hours ***prerequisites required

Recovery Specialist Fundamentals and Application

– Module 1: Recovery Specialist Advanced Role, Skills, Tools and Ethics
– Module 2: Role of the Family in the Healing Process
– Module 3: Building Recovery Capital, Daily Recovery Plans and Strengths-based Support
– Module 4: Recovery Planning and Application 
– Module 5: Introduction to Safe Passage
– Module 6: Emotional Dysregulation and Crisis De-Escalation Techniques
– Consultation Group

LEVEL TWO: $850 (18 class hours (2 days virtual or in-person) + 5 hours homework + 4 hours consultation) – 27 CEU hours ***prerequisites plus Level One required

Diving Deeper as a Recovery Specialist & Becoming a Professional

– Module 1: Co-Occurring Disorders (Behavioral Compulsions, SUD, mental health, physical health)
– Module 2: Medication Assisted Treatment
– Module 3: Advanced Professional Standards
– Module 4: Advanced Application of Recovery Skills & Tools (Motivational Interviewing, listening skills and stages of change for the recovery specialist)
– Module 5: 
Cultural Awareness, Competence & Sensitivity
– Module 6: 
Identifying and Addressing Client Patterns of Trauma and Grief and Relapse/Recurrence Prevention Tools 
 Advanced Consultation  Group 

Recertification Requirements

Certification is awarded upon successful completion of all requirements at each level, to include completion of consultation group.  Initial certification is valid for two year from the date all requirements are satisfied and verified. 

To retain the title of IRI CRS after the expiration date, students must continue to meet the high ethical standards set forth by IRI.  Students are required to complete the following to renew their certification for an additional 2 years:  

  • Evidence of completion of 10 addiction/mental health CEUs per year
  • Current proof of malpractice insurance
  • Updated contact information, including work & personal email and phone numbers
  • Signed Ethics and policy statement
  • Recertification fee of $149

    Participation in the Recovery Specialist Alumni Retreat/Workshop and/or IRI Advanced Courses is highly encouraged.  CEUs earned can be applied to recertification.
